Completed the 100STARTUPS MIMIR IPR Bootcamp, and honestly, it was an absolute blast! Programs like this really remind you why the world of academic research and startups is so exciting to be part of.

When you look at the big picture, the facts are pretty cool. Did you know that Aalto University ranks 3rd in the world for university spinouts, sitting right behind big names like Cambridge and Oxford? Getting to dive deep into intellectual property right inside such a top-tier innovation environment was a total game changer for me.
The Ultimate Highlight: The Negotiation Battle

Without a doubt, my absolute favorite part of the whole bootcamp was our big negotiation session. We were split into teams where some of us represented a huge corporation and others played an early stage startup. Our mission was to sit across the table from each other and actually negotiate an intellectual property rights agreement.
It was so much fun and such an eye opener! On the startup side, you quickly realize how precious your core technology is because it is your main superpower and your shield. But at the same time, you learn that if you are too stubborn with your terms, you might scare away big corporate partners who have the money, factories, and global reach you need to grow.
Stepping into the shoes of the big company side was just as fascinating. You see how giant enterprises have to be careful with risks, and they need total clarity and safety to invest their money without worrying about future legal headaches. Trying to find that sweet spot, working out compromises on royalties, and figuring out exclusive rights made for some of the most intense and rewarding hours of the program. It taught me more than any textbook ever could.
Changing How I Think About Startups

Beyond the negotiation game, the whole experience completely shifted how I look at IP, business strategy, and startup funding. We tackled hands-on challenges and learned how to handle complex spinout setups, figure out cap tables, and keep inventors motivated while still staying attractive to investors.
It is one thing to read about business in theory, but working side by side with brilliant founders, researchers, and builders who are all trying to solve tough problems makes it feel very real.
